Chandrima the vocalist

Chandrima Bhattacharya the vocalist from the valleys of Assam

Chandrima Bhattacharya, the soothing voice from the valleys of Assam came to the cultural city of Kolkata as an All India Radio Artist. From early days, Chandrima made her niche as a performing artist taking her shows from various parts of Bengal and almost all states of India and eventually to the bigger platforms at the national level and neighbouring states like Bangladesh.

Her elegance and panache was immediately noticed, and adequately rewarded by international organizers, when she gained her passage to London for London Boisakhi Bongomela in 2012 and back to back performance of London Sharad Utsav in in 2012 & 2013.  Apart from innumerable stage performances, she has made a notable career for herself with background scoring of many TV serials and live performance in reputed channels of Zee Bangla, Tara Music, Akash Aath, Betar Bangla London, and Channel 9 UK.

The forte of Chandrima is however her experimental work on music. Her experimental work with legendary singer Srabani Sen on Tagore works and their relevance with contemporary musician, performed live at Indian Council of Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, received critics attention and sensational response from print & electronic media with reviews ranging from Ananda Bazar Patrika, Times of India, The Statesman and other forums of music fraternity.

Despite having such a life of glitz and razzmatazz, she has still grounded herself firm with humanity and humility, through her unequivocal services to the society as a devoted member of Lions Club International.

Some Gleanings of Chandrima Bhattacharya performing live in Youtube as

Sunday, November 1, 2009

It would be rather beating my own drums but to be humble enough I'd introduce myself as I'd like to be introduced in various Live shows as under:"Chandrima Bhattacharya more popular as Chandrima from valleys of Assam is maestro with her sonata of melodious numbers and a touch of elegance. She is a regular performer in All India Radio, Yuvabani, Guwahati. Her repertoire on Modern Music of Hindi and Bengali songs have taken her to many live shows in various places of Assam, West Bengal including landmark events like Teesta Festival of North Bengal, Bihu Celebration in Assam and Haldia Utsav of Bengal. She stands out with her wide popularity for Bhojpuri folk performance from the Tata Steel city to her spiritual Bhajans in religious cradle of Mathura/Vrindaban. Her duet Hindi musical performances with Vinod Rathode, Amit Kumar, Javed Ali, Kumar Sanu, Mohd Aziz, Aneek, Eman, Shreya Ghosal and Anuradha Padwal has drawn the crowd from the cultural Mix of Mahajati Sadan, Kolkata to the cosy indoors of overseas Bangabandhu International Convention Centre, Dhaka. She is well acclaimed for her soft hip swaying numbers in various corporate shows including premiere IndianOil live show in New Delhi, Guwahati, Haldia and Mathura. Her wide repertoire earned her various accolades and recorded Jingles and title music of TV serials. Her performance in duet play back singing in Bengali Movie has earned appreciation from her co-star Raghav and leading music directors of Bengal.Gifted with melodious & sweet voice she performed in DD Bangla, Zee TV Bangla, CTV Plus as well as NE Bangla TV channels.

Chandrima in her ensuing album released by Raaga Music Company Kolkata has constructed bridge between two worlds of Present and Past, where the memories rub shoulders with its surreal existence. In this album titled “Tribute to Legends”, she cherry picked some forgotten numbers of yesteryears Bengali Modern Music and Film songs which though obscured by clouds of time, left indelible footprints down memory lane. The album was released on auspicious day of Bengali New Year 1417 (15th April 2010) by the legend “Manna Dey” in a programme, also graced by singer Aarti Mukherjee besides other stars and starlets. The octogenarian, Dada Saheb Phalke awardee, Manna Dey in his signature keynote underlined, the songs like “Kancher Churir Chhota” and “Koi Go Koi Amar Bokul Phul” as songs of wonderyears which can still do magic even today or years to come.

Recognition touched her earlier in 2006, when her maiden Album of Modern Bengali Songs named “Sapnaneel” was released by Prime Music Company of Kolkata. Chandrima remains indifferent to all such recognitions and accolades as her voice continues to be aired on various Television Serials and Regional FM channels. She, as an ambassador of IndianOil Family member, is however deeply touched with other social issues and poignantly working on greater social cause of underprivileged persons in her association with Society of Lions Club International.
